Rameswaram / Dhanushkodi
A small town called Dhanushkodi is located in Tamil Nadu, India, on the southeast tip of Pamban Island. It is located close to the pilgrimage town of Rameswaram, at the meeting point of the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean. The mythological and historical significance of Dhanushkodi is immense. It is the location where, in Hindu legend, Lord Rama constructed the Rama Setu, also known as Adam’s Bridge, in order to get to Lanka and save his wife Sita from the evil king Ravana. The term “Dhanushkodi” suggests “end of the bow,” alluding to Lord Rama’s bow.

Tour Description
In December 1964, a powerful hurricane decimated the town, leaving it in ruins and causing numerous fatalities. Since the typhoon devastated the railway that connected Dhanushkodi to the mainland, the settlement has stayed mainly deserted. Even with its sad history, Dhanushkodi is a well-liked travel destination. Its calm beaches, the ruins of the old town, and its closeness to the Rameswaram pilgrimage site draw tourists. There are breathtaking views of the ocean on both sides of the road that leads from Rameswaram to Dhanushkodi. Dhanushkodi's surroundings are well-known for their abundance of marine life and chances for birdwatching. Many aquatic animals can be found in the adjacent Gulf of Mannar aquatic National Park.
