Tour Description
One of the most recognisable structures in Mahabalipuram is the Shore Temple. King Narasimhavarman II constructed the complex of three temples in the eighth century, comprising one big and two smaller ones. The Dravidian architectural style and the temple's location facing the Bay of Bengal make it noteworthy. The five monolithic rock temples known as the Pancha Rathas (or Five Rathas) are made from a single, enormous stone. They bear the name of the Pandavas from the epic Mahabharata and are distinguished by their unique architectural designs. Many cave temples, which are hewn out of the rock with elaborate sculptures and carvings, can be found in Mahabalipuram. The Varaha Cave Temple, the Mahishasuramardini Cave Temple, and the Krishna Cave Temple are a few notable examples.
