Fort Kochi and Mattancherry
In Kochi, Kerala, India, there are two historically significant and culturally lively neighbourhoods: Mattancherry and Fort Kochi. Their vibrant marketplaces, many cultural influences, and colonial architecture are well-known. Fort Kochi is renowned for having a thriving cultural and artistic environment. This location hosts the yearly Kochi-Muziris Biennale, an international display of contemporary art. The Cochin Carnival, which is held in the region around the New Year’s festivities, is another well-known event. Another important landmark is the Dutch Palace, sometimes referred to as the Mattanchery Palace. Constructed by the Portuguese in 1555 and subsequently restored by the Dutch, it is home to an extensive assemblage of murals that illustrate various incidents from the Ramayana and Mahabharata.
